Stuck for Mother’s Day Gift Ideas? Get her a Floristry Class!
A few weeks ago I went to a flower arranging session.
I know, not my usual bag and not something I’ve ever given much thought to. I love smelling flowers but beyond that I only have plants that research tells me are pretty much impossible to kill unless you try really hard (*looks at wilting ZZ Plant next to me*).
Fabienne Egger is a big-time florist, supplying the the great and good of London’s elite. We were learning how to make a table centre piece set in the very fancy Morton’s Club near Green Park.
It’s not something I know anything about, nor do I give very much thought to it, but flower arranging is brain-consumingly meditative. For forty or so minutes I was completely immersed in the world of my centre piece, getting it balanced, even and aesthetically pleasing. All of the people around me melted away and I was calmer than I’d been in ages.
Now if there’s one person in my life who could do with shutting her brain off to the worries and cares of the world, it’s my Mum. And lots of mums out there.
It wasn’t just learning a new skill, it was a delightfully contemplative hour or so being completely absorbed in the task at hand.
If you’re stuck for a Mother’s Day present then may I suggest this. It’s an absolutely perfect gift.
