Model Kidnapped to be Sold into Human Traficking: Be Careful!

It’s like the worst horror story you can imagine: the sort of modelling nightmare your parents envision when you’re scouted.

It was announced that a British model was forcefully injected with ketamine, handcuffed, transported in a suitcase and held captive for six days – the plan being to sell her on to apparently predominantly Arab ‘clients’ who would use her as a sex slave. Then when they tire of her? Passed on until they are ‘tiger meat’.

It’s hard to unpick what is solid fact but one thing is clear: this is big money and big business for certain deplorable souls who make huge amounts from trafficking these victims. It’s not the first time I’ve covered a model drugging/sex trafficking story on Modeltypeface.

This particular victim was released because she told her captor that she is a mother to a young child.

You can read all about the details of the case online including here. Be warned, tehre are disturbing images.

As models we put a lot of trust in who our agencies send us off on castings to. This victim was sent on a casting by her agent, but I’m not sure yet who her agent actually is. It does highlight the importance of a legitimate agency who have your best interests and safety at heart (I wish we could have the AMA back to what it was!). It also highlights how careful we have to be when doing our own work – either as freelancers or meeting with photographers via social media.

I’ve written on how to stay safe when abroad and generally going to parties here. And on working outside of agencies here.

Just be very, very careful and vigilant.
