Beauty Tuesday: Chyawanprash

Errrrrr….WHAT?! I hear you ask? Yes, not very well-known and lacking a catchy, Westernised name, Chyawanprash doesn’t seem to be on most people’s must-have beauty lists…

This isn’t to smear on your face or body, but to ingest. Because there’s no point in spending hundreds a year on fancy potions if we’re not gonna nourish ourselves from the inside, too.

So what is it?! Chyawanprash is an Indian jam made with over 30 fruits and spices including Indian Gooseberry, which is one of the highest natural sources of vitamin C – so it’s great for staving off colds over winter.

It’s delicious! Have you ever had chai tea? It’s a bit like that. It’s sweet, tangy and warm, and it tastes delicious stirred into tea, coffee, yogurt or on toast. I’ve been having a teaspoonful a day in my morning pint of hot water. I enjoy the taste and I feel like it’s so much better for my immune system than dusty little vitamin pills that I swear I just pee straight out, anyway.

I discovered this from reading The Body Balance book, which is all about the Ayurvedic diet. For any sugar fiends out there, this is a great replacement to the processed stuff (though there is a tiny amount of caster sugar in here, so beware if you’re ultra sensitive).
